Last year, if I’m being honest, I felt like I was just surfing life. Not the fun kind where you’re riding waves with the sun on your face. More like trying to stay upright while the waves kept crashing in.
Business.
Travel.
Editing marathons.
Content shoots.
Trying to build something meaningful.
As a creative freelancer, it’s easy to pour everything into your work and forget that you’re the engine behind it all. And eventually I realized something. I wasn’t thriving. I was surviving. So this year I made a quiet promise to myself. I don’t want to live in survival mode anymore.
I want to flourish.
I want to feel energized.
I want to feel strong.
I want my life to feel like it’s flowing instead of constantly fighting upstream.
And that meant doing something that used to feel uncomfortable. I started being a little selfish with my health. Not selfish in a negative way. Selfish in the way that says: If I want to create a life I love, I have to take care of the person living it.
That’s where BODi became a huge part of my routine.
My Go-To Platform for Fitness and Nutrition
One of the biggest challenges as a freelancer is that your schedule isn’t predictable. Some days I’m editing for hours. Other days I’m driving across Iowa for shoots.
Sometimes I’m traveling, working from coffee shops, hotels, or even my car between locations. So I needed something simple. Something flexible. Something that worked with my lifestyle instead of adding stress to it. That’s why I love BODi.
Inside the platform I can:
• Stream workouts from my phone, laptop, or TV
• Follow guided fitness programs
• Track workouts and nutrition in one place
• Choose workouts based on how much time I actually have
Some days that’s a full workout. Some days it’s just 20 minutes to move my body. But consistency is what matters most.
Building Your Own Digital Workout Library
One feature I love about BODi is that you can now purchase individual workout programs digitally and keep them in your account. Instead of needing a full subscription, you can simply buy the programs you love and create your own personal workout library. Programs start around $59 and include:
• All the workouts in the program
• Digital calendars and guides
• Nutrition resources when available
• Bonus materials and program tools
Everything stays inside the BODi app so you can stream it whenever you want. Even if you don’t have an active subscription. For people who love doing the same programs over and over, this is honestly a great option. It’s like having your favorite workouts on standby anytime you need them.
My Favorite Mindset Shift: The 80/20 Rule
Another thing that has helped me move out of survival mode is letting go of the “all or nothing” mindset around health. For a long time I thought fitness had to be strict to work. Now I live by something much simpler. 80% intentional. 20% enjoying life.
That means most of the time I’m focusing on:
• Moving my body
• Following workouts
• Eating foods that fuel me
• Getting my steps in
And the other 20 percent? That’s where coffee runs, dinner out, and spontaneous road trip snacks live. Because thriving doesn’t come from restriction. It comes from balance.
Rebuilding the Habits That Make Me Feel Like Myself
One thing I’ve realized in this season of life is that thriving usually comes from small habits done consistently. For me, that looks like:
Running
Pilates
Walking more
Eating better most of the time
Prioritizing my health before the chaos of the day begins
Not because I have to. But because I want to show up better for the life I’m building.
For my work.
For my dreams.
For the people I serve.
The Goal This Year: Flourish
Last year felt like survival. This year feels like growth. I’m rebuilding habits that make me feel strong again. Not overnight.
Not perfectly. Just consistently. And tools like BODi make that process simple. Because when your system is easy to use, it becomes easier to stay committed. And when you stay committed, something beautiful happens. You start to move from surviving…into flourishing.
A Reminder for Dream-Chasers
If you’re someone building a business, chasing dreams, or trying to create a life you truly love, here’s something I want you to remember. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish. It’s necessary. The life you want to build requires energy, clarity, and strength. And those things start with the habits you practice every day.Move your body. Fuel it well most of the time. Find systems that help you stay consistent. For me, that system has been BODi. And it’s been one of the tools helping me step out of survival mode and into a season of flourishing.
